KUCHING, April 10: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to deliver a talk on conservation of the planet at an upcoming international forum in Poland next week, followed by a talk on energy in Bangkok, Thailand, further underscoring Sarawak’s recognition globally despite being a modest State.

During Abang Johari and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today, the Premier expressed his pride in being the only leader from Malaysia invited to address both prestigious international gatherings.

“This signifies recognition of Sarawak’s green efforts and proactive initiatives. It validates Sarawak’s position at the forefront (of climate change) and affirms that we are on the right track,” he told reporters.

The Polish forum is anticipated to be graced by the Prime Minister of Poland.

With Sarawak’s heightened prominence on the global platform, Abang Johari emphasised his recent call during the National Energy Council meeting for the federal government to expedite the formulation of a national policy to enable Sarawak to assume a prominent role as an international stakeholder in climate action.

“Sarawak not bad lah, being the first in the Asia Pacific region, including Asean, to establish a carbon trading law. We are the first. However, the establishment of a national policy is imperative to faciliate inter-government cooperation.

“At this juncture, Prime Minister (Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim) admitted we (Sarawak) are moving too fast, but it is imperative to recognise that the future global future economy will depend on this,” he added. — DayakDaily
