Sarawak’s Covid-19 cases dip to 1,983 as Kuching reports 561 new cases

KUCHING, Sept 14: There is a significant drop in new Covid-19 positive cases to 1,983 in Sarawak today, the lowest in more than two weeks, after recording an all time high of 5,291 cases two days ago.

According to a report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, cases in Kuching also declined by half to 561 as compared to yesterday and more than one third as compared to 1,845 reported on Sept 12.

Despite a general drop in the number of new cases, four districts registered triple-digit figure which include Kuching (561), Bintulu (355), Serian (257) and Sibu (145).

The districts which reported double-digit new cases include Miri (88), Sri Aman (73), Lubok Antu (59), Bau (48), Tebedu (48), Saratok (42), Limbang (36), Belaga (36), Kapit (31), Subis (31), Pusa (28), Sarikei (23), Simunjan (17), Samarahan (15), Song (15), Tatau (14) and Betong (12).

Another 12 districts reported single-digit cases namely Meradong with eight cases, Lundu (7), Sebauh (6), Selangau (6), Lawas (5), Beluru (4), Telang Usan (4), Bukit Mabong (3), Asajaya (2), Kanowit (2), Mukah (1) and Julau (1).

Out of the 1,983 new cases, 75.9 per cent or 1,505 cases were in Category 1, 23.8 per cent or 472 cases were in Category 2, one case each in Category 3 and 4 and four cases in Category 5.

With 1,983 new cases in the State, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 162,303.

Meanwhile, nine new fatalities were reported including one brought-in-dead (BID) case.

With that, the death toll caused by Covid-19 in Sarawak has increased to 639.

As of today, there were 2,514 Covid-19 patients recovered, bringing cumulative recoveries to 120,719 people or 74.38 per cent of the overall Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

In spite of that, 40,700 Covid-19 patients are still being treated in health facilities throughout the State whereby 78 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 19 patients on breathing support.

Four new clusters were identified, namely Laman Bong Chin Cluster, Jalan Upland Cluster, Kampung Segedup Cluster from Kuching, Jundak Saeh Merah Cluster in Subis formed and two clusters, Jalan DBKU Cluster, Jalan Tenaga Cluster from Kuching ended. — DayakDaily
