Nursing home, children’s home among four new Covid-19 clusters announced in Sarawak

KUCHING, Sept 14: A nursing home at Laman Bong Chin near Jalan Rock and a children’s home at Jalan Upland here with 10 and 51 confirmed Covid-19 cases respectively are among the four new clusters identified in Sarawak today.

There were three new clusters declared in Kuching with two linked to care institutions and one linked to a village, as well as one cluster in Subis linked to a longhouse.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that the Laman Bong Chin Cluster in Kuching which involved the workers and residents of an elderly care home at Jalan Rock here has 10 positive cases.


A total of 78 individuals have been screened, whereby 67 have tested negative while one person is awaiting lab test results.

The Jalan Upland Cluster in Kuching which involved the staff and residents of a children’s home here has 51 positive cases, out of which one case was recorded today.

A total of 60 individuals have been screened, with nine testing negative while no lab test result is pending.

A cluster of 12 infections was also detected among the residents of Kampung Segedup near Jalan Batu Kawa here, triggering the Kampung Segedup Cluster.

Of the total, three cases were reported today.

A total of 75 individuals have been screened, whereby 31 have tested negative while 32 are awaiting lab test results.

All the positive cases from the three clusters in Kuching have been referred to either Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for treatment and isolation.

Meanwhile, the sole new community cluster in Subis dubbed the Jundak Saeh Merah Cluster, is linked to a longhouse under lockdown at Batu Anchau with 22 cases confirmed, out of which eight cases were reported today.

A total of 35 individuals have been screened, whereby 12 have tested negative and one person is still waiting for lab test results.

All positive cases have been referred to either Miri Hospital or PKRC Miri for treatment and isolation.

SDMC has also today declared the end of two clusters in Kuching, namely the Jalan DBKU Cluster and Jalan Tenaga Cluster, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 139, out of which 17 clusters registered an increase in infections with a total of 80 cases contributed to today’s case count of 1,983.

Topping the list with most cases is the Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong which added 29, followed by the SEPOM Serian Cluster in Serian (10 cases); Long Urun Cluster in Belaga (9 cases), Jundak Saeh Merah Cluster in Subis (8 cases); Kampung Sikog Cluster in Kuching (7 cases); Galaxy Cluster in Bintulu and Kampung Segedup Cluster in Kuching (3 cases each); and Opar Cluster in Bau (2 cases).

The remaining nine clusters which recorded an increase of one case each are Duras Cluster in Serian, Jalan Usaha Daya Dua Cluster in Kuching, KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster in Betong, Mapu Cluster in Tebedu, Sebayang-Stalun Cluster in Limbang, Annah Rais Cluster in Kuching, Bijongon Cluster in Bau, Tinwar Keleku Cluster in Subis and new Jalan Upland Cluster in Kuching. — DayakDaily
