KUCHING, Feb 22: Sarawak’s commitment to carbon neutrality serves as a commendable model for the world, according to Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CEIC) chairman Lord Jonathan Peter Marland.

Lord Jonathan noted that amidst global climate challenges, Sarawak leads in addressing the issue through its green economy policies.

“The technology that will be developed by Sarawak as it continues to enhance its green economy will also be highly beneficial and exportable,” he stated during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

In addition to attracting investments, Lord Jonathan highlighted that his visit to Sarawak aims to facilitate market opportunities for products such as those in the energy, green, and medical sectors, thereby showcasing local expertise on a global scale for the benefit of the community.

Responding to inquiries regarding specific products from Sarawak to be focused on, he identified healthcare and the green economy.

Furthermore, he emphasised that discussions would encompass education and other sectors such as food security, waste-to-energy, and technology.

“It’s a combination of the expertise here and that which exists elsewhere,” he added.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting trade, investment, and the private sector across the 56 Commonwealth member states.

Lord Marland’s visit follows ongoing interactions between the CEIC and Sarawak’s interests, including the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) Connects working trip to London in December 2023.

The delegation was led by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, accompanied by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also serves as the Minister of MINTRED. — DayakDaily
