KUCHING, Jan 22: Sarawakians who are living outside the state or overseas should make it a point to come home and celebrate the auspicious Chinese New Year with their parents and family.

Chinese New Year is a very important celebration for Chinese families as it not only marks the start of a new year but is also a time for families to be together and a time for families and friends to bond, according to PKR Sarawak vice-chairwoman Voon Shiak Ni.

“The Chinese New Year eve reunion dinner is the most important family dinner for the year. Elders in the family will expect their children and grandchildren to come back for the gathering because it is usually the happiest moment for them. I would like to take this opportunity to gently remind all our young people who are outside Sarawak to try their best to go home to celebrate the auspicious occasion. Always remember your aging parents at home and please come back to celebrate and spend some time with them,” Voon emphasised in her Chinese New Year message.

Apart from enjoying the festive season, she noted that Chinese New Year is also a time for reflection of one’s achievements and accomplishments in the past and to chart new resolutions for the new year.

She believed that the new year will usher in good luck, prosperity and blessings for everyone to kick start another fruitful year.

Voon also encourage employers to approve their employees’ application for leave to enable more families to celebrate Chinese New Year’s eve,

She added that it is the best thing that an employer can do for their employee as they will not only make the staff happy but the family as well.

“Happy Chinese New Year to all Malaysians and may the new year usher in prosperity, good health and blessings for everyone. Gong Xi Gong Xi.” — DayakDaily
