Sarawakians Claudin Tay, Janice Liaw shine at dancesport championship in Spain

KUCHING, Nov 19: Sarawakian dancers Claudin Tay JiaYen and Janice Liaw Qian Ning recently captivated the audience at the World Dancesport Federation’s (WDSF) championship’s Female Adult Solo Latin event in Calvia, Spain.

Claudin and Janice, 17-year-olds, finished in 13th and 14th places, respectively, out of 38 competitors from 14 countries.

Held from Nov 10 to 12, 2023, the World Championship’s Female Adult Solo Latin is among the dance series held concurrently with the Mallorca Dance Festival (MDF).

For this category alone, Tyng Dance Academy founder and principal Chan Tyng Tyng said the two girls’ performance is considered the highest achievement ever for Malaysia.

“They also ranked in the top six in the Mallorca Dance Festival Open, each in the Adult and Youth category.

“We believe that this achievement not only showcases the talent nurtured at Tyng Dance Academy but also highlights the excellence of Sarawak on the global stage,” she told DayakDaily recently.

Chan, also the president of the Kuching Performing Arts Association, further said that the girls’ next competition is DanceSport Hong Kong Open 2023. — DayakDaily
