KUCHING, June 23: Sarawakian weightlifting athletes won three medals (two gold and one silver) at the Malaysian Sports Council (MSN) Talent Carnival Series 1/2023, held in Kuala Lumpur from June 15 to 18.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Darriel Bravellen brought home a gold medal in the 45kg (Below age 13) category while Joel Daven contributed another gold in the Over 60kg (Below age 16) category.
Meanwhile, Darren Busang secured silver for the Over 50kg (Below age 13) category.
Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the competition would serve as a platform for the exposure and preparation of Sarawak athletes for the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) next year.
“(The event) will allow new athletes to experience a real competition.
“In addition, it is to evaluate the development level of performance of athletes and be a motivation to encourage new athletes to venture into this sport,” he said.
Sarawak has sent five youth athletes from the shadow squad to the four-day tournament.
The other two athletes are Jackquies Willyyam for 61kg (Below 16) and Jerrad Jason for 55kg (Below 16). — DayakDaily
