KUCHING, May 14: Sarawakians Jackie Wong Siew Cheer and Grace Wong Xio Mei delivered the national teams’ gold 12th and 13th gold medals in the hammer throw event at the Hanoi 2021 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games today.
Both athletes recaptured their titles for each category after beating their Thai rivals at the My Dinh National Stadium.
Grace bagged her gold medal by throwing a distance of 57.13m in the fourth attempt, beating Mingkamon Koomphon (50.28m), who took home the silver medal, while Panwat GimSrang (49.64) took the bronze.
Meanwhile, Jackie defeated Kittipong Boonmawan for the second time in the men’s event with a distance of 66.49m in the last attempt as Kittipong settled with his best throw of 64.54m.
Another Malaysian, Sadat Maryuqi Ajisan, also secured a broze medal in the men’s category with a distance of 58.86m. — DayakDaily
