KUCHING, Aug 24: Evelyn Ting, 25, from Kuching, has been selected as a finalist in the Miss World Malaysia Grand Finals, which will be held on Aug 27, 2022 at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu.
Ting was even granted the title of “Miss World Sarawak 2022” for garnering the most online votes during the semi-finals stage of the world’s longest running beauty pageant, according to a statement.
She describes her experience so far as overwhelming.
“I am so overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity to join this prestigious pageant with the other gorgeous finalists,” she said.
Ting earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Physiology from the University of New South Wales and a Masters of Nursing degree from the University of Sydney in Australia.
Upon graduation, she worked as a registered nurse in Sydney, Australia and was immediately thrust onto the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ting focused her efforts after being separated from her family in Kuching by the Covid-19 pandemic by establishing a vaccination centre in Sydney, Australia.
After administering thousands of vaccines to the community, the 25-year-old was a confidante to many patients suffering from the mental stresses caused by the infamous lockdown.
“I hope to uphold the values of women empowerment which Miss World stands for and use this important platform to shed a light on mental health awareness,” she remarked.
The final score will be tallied from a combination of online votes and live judging. To see the finalists and vote for your favourite, visit http://www.hyperlive.tv/voting/11.
The Sarawakian frontliner has also partnered with Befrienders Kuching, a non-profit organisation that provides emotional support to those who are lonely, distressed, or in despair, without charge.
