KUCHING, Aug 6: Dancers from Sarawak’s Tyng Dance Academy have earned 15 gold, 11 silver and six bronze medals at the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship 2024.
According to a press release, the Academy said 13-year-old Jayda Chang was crowned champion in the Junior 1 Solo category in the National Solo Ranking.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Trisha Yap secured second place in the Junior 2 Solo while 18-year-old Janice Liaw clinched third place in the Adult Solo category.
Young prodigies like 7-year-old Jovanna Goh and Ariella Tang dazzled in the Single Dance Solo categories, each winning two gold medals in Cha-Cha and Jive, while 9-year-old Ooi Shee Le and 18-year-old Claudin Tay also claimed top honours.
“Newcomers Ally Bong and Eva Wong made a grand entrance, each earning four gold medals.
“Special mentions go to 9-year-old Belle Bong who won a silver and a bronze in her age category; 12-year-old Bong Ker Chien who reached the semi-finals in the Malaysia Junior 1 Ranking; 18-year-old Amanda Goh, a finalist in Single Dance; and 19-year-old Jocelyn Yap, a semi-finalist in the University Category,” the Academy said.
Held from July 26 to 28 at Double Tree by Hilton Shah Alam, the third edition of WDSF Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship saw over 300 athletes from 18 countries competed fiercely.
The championship also served as the crucial points qualifier for the year-end world championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tyng Dance Academy will also be gearing up for the Borneo Open International DanceSport Championship.
