KUCHING, May 3: Police are investigating the disappearance of a woman, reportedly the wife of a Sarawakian businessman, who was en route to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Putrajaya on April 9.
According to a news report by Bernama, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that a report on the disappearance was lodged at the Precinct 7 Police Station in Putrajaya at 3.02pm the same day.
He stated that the missing woman, identified as Pamela Ling, 42, was due to give a statement to the MACC as part of an ongoing investigation, but MACC officials confirmed she failed to appear.
“This was not Ling’s first appearance at the MACC to give a statement related to a case. Several witnesses, including MACC officers and the victim’s lawyer, have had their statements recorded to assist the investigation,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Rusdi added that the victim’s lawyer also lodged a separate police report in Seri Kembangan regarding her disappearance. The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code, which pertains to abduction.
According to a report by TheStar, Pamela is the wife of Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu, founder of Miri-based JoinLand Group, which operates in both domestic and international markets. Its business interests span frozen food distribution, venture capital, real estate development, public-bonded warehousing, and forestry and agricultural management.
It was also reported that Hah’s company, linked to a land deal on an island in Sabah’s northern Kudat district, had recently backed out of a controversial agro-development project in Pulau Balambangan.
On Friday (May 2), Pamela’s brother, Simon Ling Wan Siong, claimed that she had allegedly been abducted in Kuala Lumpur while on her way to meet officers from the MACC.
Simon stated that Pamela was reportedly in an e-hailing car to meet the officers to provide a statement linked to an ongoing investigation on April 9, when the car was intercepted by three vehicles, and she was told to get into one of them.
“Despite the family’s and her lawyer’s attempts to contact her after 2pm, phone calls went unanswered and WhatsApp messages went undelivered.
“Grab Malaysia has also confirmed that the ride was marked as completed, but no further information has been obtained since then,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
The family has since issued a media statement appealing to the public for any information related to the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Simon at 012-886 6799 or the victim’s father, Ling Kie Yii, at 012-886 7979. – DayakDaily
