Sarawak X-Tive 2022 launched in Miri as Lee pushes for more sports activities in community

MIRI, March 5: Sports can play a crucial role in developing communities, says Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin.

By participating in sports, one can improve their health and well-being, contributing to the empowerment of individuals and promoting the development of inclusive communities.


Speaking at the launch of X-Tive Sarawak 2022 Miri level at the Indoor Stadium here today, he called on the people in Miri division to take an active approach in sports as it can be an important motivator to achieve positive effects through physical activities.

The inaugural Sarawak X-Tive 2022 event was launched today simultaneously across the State by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in Gedong, Samarahan.

For Miri division, the event was launched by Lee.

“Communities that participate in sports develop strong social bonds amongst one another, apart from building up communities that are fit,” Lee pointed out.

He hope that this programme will be continued in the future.

Lee also emphasised the important role of community leaders and elected representatives within their respective areas in promoting physical activity among the communities.

“Their active participation and supports towards the programme help strengthens the community via sports,” he added.

Also present at the launch were Miri mayor Adam Yii, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, Acting Miri Resident Jamalie Busri and acting enforcement officer of the Youth, Sports and Entreprenuer Sarawak Miri division (MYSED) Nor Khalida Abu Bakar.

Some 100 participants from various agencies took part in the event.

Various sport events have been lined up during the launch today, namely futsal, a zumba exercise session, Batak Lambung competition, arm wrestling, pickleball and aerobic exercises. ā€” DayakDaily
