KUCHING, Aug 15: Despite not being fully recovered from the flu, 21-year-old Sarawak Wushu national athlete Mok Xiao Yuan scored 9.593 points to clinch a bronze medal in the men’s Taijiquan event at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma).

The competition was held today at the Sarawak Training Wushu Centre.

Mok expressed satisfaction with his performance despite making no mistakes and sharing the same score as silver medalist Lee Cheng Yang from the Federal Territories, who also scored 9.593.

Lee secured the silver based on his higher difficulty moves, while Negeri Sembilan athlete Wong Zi Hong claimed the gold with a score of 9.596.

In an interview, Mok, who has been in the sport for ten years, revealed that this would be his last Sukma.

He previously won a silver medal in the same event during the last Sukma in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.

“After this Sukma, I will return to training with the national team and prepare for an upcoming international meet in Singapore,” Mok said.

“I didn’t expect to win any medals, but I gave my best effort in this Sukma, and I’m happy with the result.”

This bronze medal marks the second for Mok and brings the Sarawak Wushu team’s medal tally to five: one gold, one silver, and three bronze. — DayakDaily
