KUCHING, July 23: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) has decided to join Sarawak Baru (SB) — a new coalition of state-based political parties.

Its president, Munan Laja, opined that after so many decades under Barisan Nasional (BN) and now under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the state needed something new.

Currently, SB comprises Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB), Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and State Reform Party Sarawak (STAR).

PBDSB president Cobbold John had earlier invited SWP to join the fold.

The formation of SB, Munan reckoned, was timely as the next state polls must be held by 2021.

“Sarawak consists of 29 Dayak native groups, Chinese and Malay. With this new alliance, we hope it will meet the aspirations of our fellow Sarawakians.

“We need to be in a team, instead of barking alone. Let us fight for Sarawak and its people together, without fear and favour. Therefore, we need the people’s support to make this dream come true,” said Munan, when contacted today.

It is understood that the four components of SB would meet soon to discuss their objectives before registering the coalition with the Registrar of Societies (ROS). — DayakDaily
