Sarawak will establish its trade and tourism office in Brunei, says Abang Johari

KUCHING, Jan 25: Sarawak will establish the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari stated this tonight at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Miri Division Chinese New Year Dinner, which was held at Mega Hotel Miri in Miri.


He mentioned the construction of the Sarawak trade and tourism in Bandar Seri Begawan has received the approval of the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, following his two-day visit to Brunei with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which concluded today.

“Following that, we will identify an area in Bandar Seri Begawan to set up this office.

“We will improve cooperation with Brunei and we will market Sarawak products to the global market,” he added.

Additionally, he highlighted that one area of cooperation that they will be looking at is a proposed hydropower plant between Brunei and Lawas.

Among others present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, SUPP Honorary president Dr George Chan Hong Nam, Minister for Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. — DayakDaily
