Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Brunei expected to open later this year

KUCHING, Feb 28: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has declared the imminent commencement of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office (STATOB) in Brunei, with its opening anticipated later this year.

Awang Tengah stated this in a press release following a discussion on collaborative initiatives across diverse sectors after welcoming Brunei’s Primary Resources and Tourism Minister, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf Metussin at the former’s office here today.


Among the sectors discussed were tourism, agriculture, as well as small and medium enterprises.

Awang Tengah later expressed his aspiration to establish additional joint ventures across various levels between Sarawak and Brunei.

In 2023, the trade between Sarawak and Brunei saw a notable 23.8 per cent increase, reaching RM3.76 billion compared to RM3.04 billion in 2022.

Sarawak’s exports to Brunei amounted to RM3.59 billion, predominantly comprising oil, machine tools, and plastic goods.

Other notable attendees at the discussion were Deputy Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Customary Land and Regional Development of Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh. — DayakDaily
