KUCHING, Feb 28: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) requests that the federal government review the recruitment and appointment of civil servants, especially in the security, education and health sectors.

In a news report by TVS, Cuepacs president Dato Dr Adnan Mat said there is high demand for manpower in these three critical sectors.

“Even though the government set a quota of 1.62 million vacancies in public employment, Cuepacs still feels that (recruitment and appointment in) the four main branches involving police, army, teaching and also health personnel, should not necessarily be set at this number,” he said in a press conference at Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) today.

Adnan added that the appointment of civil servants which form the backbone of government administration should be carried out carefully so as not to affect all the public sectors.

He said although the three segments of security, education and health are important, recruitment and appointment should take into account the need to deliver services to the people in a more widespread manner effectively and efficiently. — DayakDaily
