KUCHING, Nov 26: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has highlighted the impact and leadership of women in the tourism sector during the Sarawak Women of Tomorrow (SWOT) Season 4 programme.
Held from Nov 23 to 26, 2025, the programme is an initiative aimed at strengthening women’s leadership capacity across the State.
Within this wider leadership platform, as a key figure in the tourism industry here, STB chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor shared her insights during the panel session titled ‘Leading with Purpose: Authentic Leadership in Complex Times’.
“Leadership is about listening to people’s realities, understanding their needs, and ensuring growth never compromises dignity, culture, or community wellbeing.
“In tourism, purpose guides us as we preserve Sarawak’s identity while creating meaningful opportunities for communities,” she said.
Sharzede also spoke from her experiences in rural communities, national platforms, and tourism recovery during crises, stressing the value of authenticity and clarity in leadership.

Her participation follows her recognition as one of Malaysia’s Top 30 Women of Excellence 2025 for her role in elevating Sarawak’s tourism sector.
SWOT 2025 continues to build resilient, purpose-driven women leaders in Sarawak, joining 129 alumni from more than 40 organisations since 2022.
The programme featured workshops, mentorship sessions, and discussions on women’s empowerment, inclusive tourism, crisis leadership, and values-based decision-making.
Also present at the panel were Datu Dr. Rashidah Bolhassan and Datin Rosmarie Wong Lu Yi, with Arinah Najwa Ahmad Said of Grab Malaysia as moderator. — DayakDaily
