KUCHING, Sept 14: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in confident that the State will usher in a new economic era based on digital technology, biochemistry, material science, and engineering.

Abang Johari noted that addressing climate change is critical to the world’s future, so the four areas of study are highly ideal.

“I was with a professor from the University of Manchester, and we were discussing climate change resulting from global warming.

“And this climate change will harm us humans. I’m sure everyone is aware that Pakistan has been flooded in many areas; however, there are areas where there is no flood and the land is too hot and dry to support agriculture,” he said this on Wednesday (Sept 14) at the Sarawak Premier Special Award Presentation Ceremony (AKPS) 2022, which was held at a hotel here.

He continued by stating that the education and training sector is one of the most important sectors.

“We want to be a high-income developed country by 2030, and we need an economic growth rate of 6 per cent to 8 per cent.

“And the only thing that is vital if we are to achieve gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6 to 8 per cent is that we have creative and innovative human resources with a vision for the future.

“That is why Yayasan Sarawak plays an important role; through it, our children have gained knowledge and experience and have gone on to become state and national leaders,” Abang Johari added. — DayakDaily
