Sarawak to set aside RM100 mln allocation to upgrade SK Gageng, SMK Gedong in Simunjan

KUCHING, Nov 20: The Sarawak government will set aside an allocation of RM100 million to upgrade SK Gageng and SMK Gedong in Simunjan, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said RM28 million will be allocated next year towards this goal.


“Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 with expected completion within two years,” he said when tabling the Supply (2024) Bill, 2023 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Abang Johari also said under the 2024 State Budget, a sum of RM16 million will be provided to cover operation costs of two State-owned international schools located in Petra Jaya and Mile 12, Kuching-Serian Road respectively.

“The first Stated-owned international school in Sarawak has entered its second year of operation at Petra Jaya, Kuching with 178 students.

“The second international school located at Mile 12, Kuching-Serian Road, is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year for full operation thereafter,” he elaborated.

Apart from that, the Sarawak government has set aside a sum of RM1.2 million to continue implementing the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English language under the Dual Language Programme in Sarawak; approximately RM1 million for the upskilling and reskilling of non-option teachers in English, Mathematics and Science subjects; and RM1.3 million for the upskilling of teachers with ICT know-how to achieve the Advanced Level of using Raspberry Pi devices in their schools. — DayakDaily
