KUCHING, May 28: A total of 500 projects worth RM42.24 billion are currently being delivered by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), says Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Of the 500 projects, Uggah shared that 244 fall under the Development Expenditure (P001, P002, P003, and P004), 186 were classified as Projek Rakyat (P029), while 70 were funded through Alternative Funding mechanisms.
Uggah, who is also Deputy Premier, said that these projects span across five major categories: 301 road projects valued at RM28.03 billion, 70 bridge projects worth RM5.76 billion, 104 building projects amounting to RM3.68 billion, 23 riverine structures costing RM4.42 billion, and two airport developments estimated at RM350.82 million.
During his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, he further disclosed the latest implementation status: 218 projects completed, 122 currently under construction, and 160 are in the pre-contract stage.
“This marks an increase of 15 completed projects and another 24 projects have commenced construction compared to the numbers of projects reported in the previous DUS sitting,” said Uggah.
Such progress, he stressed, clearly reflects the Sarawak government’s steadfast commitment to executing vital development projects essential to economic advancement and improving the quality of life for the ‘rakyat’ (people). –DayakDaily
