KUCHING, July 17: Sarawak will play host to this year’s national-level Malaysia Day celebration to be held at Padang Merdeka on Sept 16.
This year’s celebration in the state capital will be themed ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih’.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan revealed that the federal and state government have also agreed to form a joint working committee to ensure a smooth and successful running of the celebration.
“I have been appointed the chairman of the committee for Sarawak and assisted by four assistant ministers,” he told a press conference after receiving a courtesy call from Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Eddin Syazlee Shith at Wisma Sumber Alam, here, today.
The assistant ministers are Datuk Naroden Majais (Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Entreprise Development), Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring), Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn (Native Land Development) and Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
“We are honoured to be hosting this significant celebration. The state government will give the collaboration, support and assistance to ensure the celebration is run smoothly to achieve its objectives.
“It is hoped that the celebration would enhance the spirit of patriotism and love for the country, as well as strengthen unity and national integration among the people,” he added.
Eddin expressed appreciation to the Sarawak government for the willingness and commitment in forming the joint working committee.
“It will be a very meaningful celebration this Malaysia Day. The theme is in line with the government’s vision and mission to work towards a more transparent Malaysia,” he added.
Communications and Multimedia deputy secretary-general Shakib Ahmad Shakir was also present. — DayakDaily
