KUCHING, Aug 9: Sarawak is set to host this year’s National Malaysia Day celebration, which will take place at the Indoor Stadium in Kuching on Sept 16.
The celebration themed “Malaysia Madani Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” will be graced by distinguished guests including Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.
Notable figures attending the event will include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang as well as Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife Datin Seri Julia Sala.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi, who is also the minister-in-charge of the 2023 National Malaysia Day celebration, expressed the honour that Sarawak feels in being selected as the host for this significant event.
“Sarawak has consistently exemplified the spirit of unity. The slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai’ has gained prominence, signifying our commitment to unity and cohesion,” he said during a meeting on the celebration at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Julaihi explained that the purpose of the meeting was to refine the preparations for the next meeting with the Ministry of Communications and Digital to be held on Aug 14.
The celebration’s highlights will encompass special performances such as the musical “Segulai Sejalai” and showcasing talents from the three regions of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak with the ensemble of local artistes from across the country coming together in a display of unity.
The event will also feature the vibrant “Konsert Rakyat”.
Deputy Minister of Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister of Women, Children Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Ir Aidel Lariwoo, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat, Deputy Minister of Commodities and Regional Development Martin Ben, and Deputy Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee were present. — DayakDaily
