KUCHING, June 30: Up to 810 Sarawak athletes are expected to participate in the upcoming 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2022 which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 16 to 24.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that preparations for Sukma 2022 have been carried out smoothly according to plan and targets that have been set.

“Among the sports development programmes that have been implemented to prepare the athletes for Sukma include the Sarawak Warrior Camp on June 23 to 29 and another MSN Sukma XX Contingent Camp will be conducted from Sept 12 to 15.

“I am confident that the intensive training preparation and excellent performance of our athletes during the last SEA Games will be able to put Sarawak in a good position in Sukma 2022,” he said during the Ministry’s Raya Gawai 2022 celebration gathering last night (June 29) as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Abdul Karim also commended the achievements and programmes implemented by the Ministry, Sarawak Sports Corporation and Sarawak State Sports Council at all levels as this reflected the strong commitment of all stakeholders in making Sarawak a sports powerhouse by 2030.

The Ministry, he added, has also planned as many as 120 youth, sports and entrepreneur development programmes throughout Sarawak, including in rural and remote areas this year.

“We have recently organised the MYSED Go Rural @ Long Singut Programme on June 24 and 25 which has brought together 100 youths and communities in Long Singut, Kapit.

“Despite the long journey to Long Singut that took about nine hours using road and river transportation, many activities were successfully implemented during the two-day programme,” he said.

Abdul Karim was delighted with the successful organisation of such a programme that not only has a meaningful impact on the community, but also reflects the level of concern and commitment of the Ministry in making further improvements.
