KUCHING, Nov 18: Sarawak is expected to begin exporting electricity supply to Sabah beginning in the second quarter of 2025.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Sarawak (MUT) Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the Sarawak government, through Sarawak Energy, has signed a Power Exchange Agreement with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to export 30MW of electricity under the Northern Grid Extension project.
According to him, the implementation of this project has been delayed due to issues involving communities in the Beluru and Telang Usan areas.
“However, the issue is being dealt with in collaboration with the Miri Resident Office, Beluru District Office, Telang Usan District Office, Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Enforcement Security Unit (UKPS), and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM),” he said in his winding-up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
He added that among the actions taken to address the issue include an engagement session with the Long Meraan community by the Telang Usan District Office on Sept 11 and various ongoing engagement activities with communities in the Beluru and Telang Usan areas since September. — DayakDaily
