KUCHING, April 15: The Sarawak government is set to build a new deep sea port in Tanjung Embang, Gedong.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the upcoming deep sea port in Tanjung Embang will be another important facility as the existing Senari Port is quite small.

“We (Sarawak government) are building a new port at Tanjung Embang, but it is not by the cape, it will be built in the sea.

“The land walling work will be done in the sea, which means we will have a sea port that is connected to the coast.

“The connection will be from Tanjung Embang to Samarahan and Gedong,” he said during the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri ceremony at a hotel in Gedong yesterday (April 14).

Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman is confident that the Sarawak government is capable in realising the project.

According to him, the project has successfully been implemented in Osaka, Japan.

“If the Japanese can, surely the Sarawakians can.

“If Osaka can do it, Shanghai can do it, Gedong should be able to build ports as well,” said Abang Johari.

The Sarawak government is looking into building a new deep sea port for Southern Sarawak at Tanjung Embang in collaboration with a Belgium-based port authority.

Abang Johari witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Antwerp-Bruges Port and Hubline Berhad on July 26, 2022.

The Antwerp-Bruges Port is the second largest international container port in Europe and the 14th in the world while Hubline is a local company involved in bulk shipping logistics services. – DayakDaily
