KUCHING, June 7: Sarawak aims to achieve 3,000 jabs daily for the opt-in AstraZeneca (AZ) Covid-19 vaccine programme at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The programme began today at two vaccination centres, located at the BCCK in Kuching and National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Miri.

“We have about 30,000 Sarawakians who registered for the opt-in programme.

“For the first three days, we expect to vaccinate 1,000 individuals per day (in BCCK). After that, we hope to increase the number of jabs to 3,000 per day.

“The programme is one of the approaches we took to speed up the vaccination process in Sarawak,” he told reporters during his visit to BCCK today.

For IKBN in Miri, the authorities expect to vaccinate 400 individuals daily for the first three days and subsequently increase the number to 3,000 vaccinations per day.

Abang Johari also mentioned that the vaccination registrants have given positive feedback about the programme, stating that the existing procedure is conducted in a friendly manner.

Also present during the visit were Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian. — DayakDaily
