Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030 to be launched end of May

KUCHING, May 1: The Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, which outlines Sarawak’s strategic transition towards a green economy, is set to be officially launched by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg by the end of May 2025.

The comprehensive document, recently finalised by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), was a focal point of a high-level roundtable discussion held yesterday (local time) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the session was led by Abang Johari and his delegation, and brought together scholars and experts to discuss pathways toward sustainability and green development.

The Sustainability Blueprint 2030 provides a roadmap to achieve a 70 per cent renewable energy mix and develop 10 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030. It features 10 strategic thrusts, 48 strategies, and 111 action plans to guide Sarawak’s efforts in building a resilient, low-carbon economy.

During the roundtable, the Premier also shared Sarawak’s upcoming green policy instruments, including the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy (SET-P) and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, reaffirming the State’s commitment to clean energy and climate action.

The dialogue at LSE emphasised partnerships and knowledge exchange to advance the State’s sustainability ambitions, with a shared commitment to balancing economic growth, environmental protection, and social inclusion.

LSE expressed strong interest in collaborating with Sarawak in areas such as forest conservation, financial services, education, and climate change, further reinforcing the shared ambition to drive sustainable growth while balancing environmental and social needs.

Among those present at the session were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other key state leaders including deputy ministers, the Attorney General, and the Financial Secretary.

Also in attendance were top LSE representatives including Director of Policy and Communications at the LSE Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, Bob Ward, Executive Director of Development, Philanthropy and Global Engagement, Helen Jones, and Acting Director of the Grantham Research Institute, Giles Atkinson. — DayakDaily
