KUCHING, June 18: Sarawak’s education system has recorded another milestone, with the State achieving an improved overall Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75 in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2025 examination, up from 2.68 the previous year.
Sarawak Education (School Management Sector) deputy director Dr Les Met said the achievement reflects the continued commitment of educators, students, parents and other stakeholders in strengthening educational quality in the State.
“The number of candidates scoring a perfect 4.00 CGPA rose to 115 students (2.19 per cent), compared to 92 students (1.61 per cent) in 2024.
“Additionally, two candidates who sat for five subjects achieved straight As (5A), a feat not recorded in the previous year,” he said when speaking on behalf of Sarawak Education director Omar Mahli at the Sarawak-Level STPM 2025 Results Announcement and Appreciation Ceremony held at SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg here today.
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news, Les added that the number of candidates obtaining 4A grades increased from 91 to 110 students.
Meanwhile, the full pass rate among candidates taking four and five subjects improved from 98.16 per cent in STPM 2024 to 98.71 per cent in 2025.
“Out of all candidates who sat for the examination, 5,257 students (99.96 per cent) qualified to be awarded the STPM 2025 certificate,” he said.
Les noted that all 22 subjects offered in Sarawak schools recorded a pass rate above 60 per cent, while nine subjects showed improved performance compared to the previous year.
He added that Accounting and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) maintained a 100 per cent pass rate, while Arabic Language recorded a significant improvement in its pass rate.
At the school level, 14 schools achieved a CGPA of 3.00 and above, while 52 out of 79 schools offering STPM recorded improvements in their CGPA compared to the previous year.
Sarawak also achieved national recognition when Kolej Tingkatan Enam Saratok was named Malaysia’s Best Form Six Centre (STPM 2025) in the college category, while SMK Sacred Heart, Sibu was recognised as the Best Form Six Centre nationwide in the Mode 2 and Mode 3 category.
In addition, Sharifah Nur Hazwani Wan Sapare from SMK Methodist, Sibu brought pride to Sarawak after being named National Best Student in Malay Language for STPM 2025.
Les also commended the efforts of teachers, parents, school communities and education partners for their role in driving STPM success in the State.
He expressed hope that these achievements will further strengthen educational excellence and student development in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
