KUCHING, Aug 7: The Sarawak Sports Village near the State Stadium in Petra Jaya is set to house around 500 athletes participating in the upcoming 21st Sukma Games 2024, scheduled from Aug 17 to 24.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the village includes a four-storey hostel, a multipurpose hall, a guardhouse, and a canteen.
Sarawak secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Secretary (Operations)-cum-Sukma Sarawak 2024 chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee inspected the sports village to assess its readiness.
Earlier, they visited the Sukma and Para Sukma Games Sarawak Secretariat Operations Room at Baitulmakmur Building II where they were briefed on technical preparations, management, venues, facilities, and equipment necessary for the event’s smooth execution.
Meanwhile, registration for athletes and team officials started today at Grand Margherita Hotel for Sarawak, Perak, Terengganu, Federal Territory, Pahang, and Sabah.
Tomorrow, contingents from Johor, Melaka, Penang, Selangor, Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis, and Negeri Sembilan will complete their registration.
These meetings are essential for confirming participant details and allowing any necessary changes.
The Sukma Games 2024 will span nine divisions in Sarawak—Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Sibu, Betong, Sri Aman, Serian, Samarahan, and Kuching—and will feature 488 events across 37 sports.
This will be followed with the Para Sukma Games, scheduled from Sept 23 to 28 in Kuching. — DayakDaily
