KUCHING, Feb 23: Sarawak’s first short film that is fully produced by its own youth, ‘Sarawak Speed’ shows that the State’s youth are more than just participants in the creative industry but also pioneers who can tell stories to inspire, unite, and uplift communities.
According to Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, through initiatives in film, performing arts, and digital content creation, the State is laying a strong foundation for a sustainable creative economy that showcases Sarawak’s unique identity and creates new career opportunities for the youth.
Speaking during the premiere of the short film at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) auditorium today, he described ‘Sarawak Speed’ as a milestone achievement.
“This aligns with the State’s broader vision of developing Sarawak as a hub for the creative economy, blending arts, culture, and technology into a thriving industry,” he said.
Before the start of the short film, Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, hoped viewers would see it as a symbol of what the youths could achieve.
“Let this be a reminder that Sarawak’s future is not only bright but filled with stories waiting to be told, talents waiting to be discovered, and achievements waiting to be celebrated,” he said.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng was also present at the event.
