KUCHING, Aug 8: Sarawak Skills Development Centre (Sarawak Skills) training centre in Sri Aman will start operations this year.
Sarawak Skills chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said the branch centre would meet the demands of the local community in Sri Aman, Betong, and Lingga.
“Short-term courses such as electrical installation and maintenance, modern agriculture and more will be offered in addition to offering the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) programme,” he said during Sarawak Skills and i-Cats University College’s (UC) 25th Convocation Ceremony held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He also mentioned Sarawak Skills Kuching Branch would offer new SKM programmes, namely Food Preparation & Production Program (Level 2), Graphic Digital (Level 3) and Civil & Structural Draughtsmanship (Level 2).
Additionally, he said Sarawak Skills in Miri will increase its capacity when the renovation of the former Shell office in Miri is completed.
“At the same time, Sarawak Skills plans to develop an Advanced Automotive Training College (AATC) in Demak Laut, Kuching.
“Together with industry partner Sibu Automobile Repaires Association, we will develop an automotive training centre in Sibu,” he added.
Abdul Aziz, who is also the i-Cats UC Pro-Chancellor, further said that the college is currently drafting new curriculums for Master’s Degree and PhD programmes to increase the variety of fields offered and aims to achieve full university status in the near future.
The programmes involved are Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education, Foundation in Science, Master of Business Administration (MBA) — by Coursework, Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Doctor of Philosophy in Economics and Doctor of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship.
Abdul Aziz also expressed gratitude to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has donated two buses for the use of i-Cats UC and Sarawak Skills’ staff and students. — DayakDaily
