Sarawak sets two national records with 11,349-strong Zumba fiesta at Kuching Festival 2025

KUCHING, Aug 3: Sarawak made history today after 11,349 participants turned the State Hockey Stadium into a vibrant sea of colour and rhythm during the Zumba Fiesta 2025, earning the State two entries in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

The event, held in conjunction with the Kuching Festival 2025, clinched records for the Largest Participation in a Zumba Event and Largest Glow-in-the-Dark Zumba Event ever held in Malaysia.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng described the occasion as a proud milestone for Sarawak and a celebration of community spirit.

“That’s right, you are not just dancing, you’re dancing your way into the record books,” he said.

He added that the Zumba Fiesta has become one of the most anticipated highlights of the Kuching Festival each year, growing in scale and enthusiasm.

“Zumba is more than just exercise. It’s fun, it’s vibrant, and most importantly, it brings people together,” he said.

Wee emphasised MBKS’s commitment to promoting a healthy and happy community, saying that Zumba is a perfect platform to encourage physical activity while fostering social connection.

MBOR’s Operations, Research and Marketing Manager Edwin Yeoh was present to officially recognise and present the certificates for both record-breaking achievements.

Also present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and his wife Datin Amar Enn Ong. – DayakDaily
