KUCHING, May 16: The KETEQ.AI, a groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI)-powered nano chip developed by Sarawakians, has the potential to position Sarawak as a global force in chip design, on par with industry giants like NVIDIA.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted the chip’s capability to generate high-speed solutions — in as little as a third of a second — for complex problems in sectors such as energy and automotive.
He revealed that the chip is currently awaiting international intellectual property (IP) registration as the world’s first AI-based power conversion device.
“This is a major step forward. Like NVIDIA, which focuses on designing rather than manufacturing chips, we are entering the global design arena,” he said during his speech at the Malaysia Digital Tour @ Kuching held at Tegas Digital Village today.
Abang Johari added that he had informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of the breakthrough and intends for the Prime Minister to officiate the chip’s launch once the IP registration is granted.
“I told Datuk Seri Anwar that once the registration is confirmed, I want him to see the chip and officially launch it,” he said.
Recalling his visit to Cardiff, Wales, the Premier shared that the chip was developed at a lab supported by the British government. Major global players such as General Electric and Siemens are also involved in related research there.
“This nano chip, designed by our own people through SMD Semiconductor, offers real-time AI solutions within a tenth of a second. Once we obtain the IP, it will be the first of its kind in the world,” he emphasised.
With the KETEQ.AI chip, Abang Johari believes Sarawak is ready to take its place on the global technology stage.
“When this materialises, Sarawak will go global,” he declared.
