Sarawak sees record high 1,566 Covid-19 cases, fourth highest in Malaysia by region

KUCHING, Aug 16: Sarawak set a new record high in daily Covid-19 cases with a total of 1,566 cases today, contributing about eight per cent of the 19,740 cases reported nationwide.

According to the Health Ministry, Sarawak is among nine states or regions that reported four-digit gains in Covid-19 case numbers.


Sarawak ranked fourth behind top placed Selangor which registered 5,706 case today. In second place was Sabah with 1,728 cases followed by Kedah with 1,592 cases, just 26 more cases than Sarawak.

Johor saw 1,510 new cases while Kuala Lumpur reported 1,360.

Penang, Kelantan and Melaka recorded 1,251, 1,227 and 1,120 cases respectively.

Perak, Terengganu, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan reported 938, 688, 646 and 343 new cases respectively.

Meanwhile, the number of new cases in Putrajaya, Perlis and Labuan remain low. There were 43 cases reported in Putrajaya, 20 in Perlis and only two in Labuan. — DayakDaily
