Sarawak sees 569 new Covid-19 cases with 5 fatalities

KUCHING, June 19: Sarawak has recorded a total of 569 new positive Covid-19 cases today, with five deaths reported.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 63.44 per cent of the cases were reported from five districts namely Sarikei (83), Kuching (74), Bintulu (47), Kapit (26), including Sibu (131).

Other districts with new infections were Simunjan (23), Meradong (22), Miri (22), Kanowit (18), Serian (16), Mukah (16), Samarahan (14), Subis (11), Selangau (11), Sri Aman (eight), Lundu (eight), Bau (seven), Telang Usan (seven), Tatau (six), Pakan (four), Marudi (four), Tebedu (three), Bukit Mabong (three), and one each for Pusa, Asajaya, Lawas, Dalat and Song

“This brings the total cumulative numbers of Covid-19 cases reported in the State today to 59,139 cases,” SDMC said in a press statement today.

SDMC noted from the total of 569 cases reported, 358 cases involved individuals who have contact to positive Covid-19 cases.

“Another 124 cases involved individuals from the existing cluster, 52 cases from other screening tests conducted in the health facilities throughout the State, and 35 cases from a screening test conducted on symptomatic individuals, also in health facilities,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported the five Covid-19 deaths cases were reported in Sibu (three) and Kuching (two), bringing the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in the state to 378 cases.

SDMC said the fatalities involved individuals, aged between 46 to 87, who had commodities.

On the same note, SDMC disclosed that a total of 550 Covid-19 cases have recovered and discharged in the State today, while 9,951 individuals are still receiving treatments in the hospitals.

On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 41 red zones, two orange zones, five yellow zones and Limbang remains as the only district in the green. — DayakDaily
