Sarawak sees 533 new Covid-19 cases with one fatality in Kuching

KUCHING, May 14: A total of 533 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the State today, with one fatality recorded in Kuching.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today said out of the total number of cases recorded today, 324 of the cases (60.78 per cent) were detected in Miri, Kapit, Sibu, Bintulu and Kuching.

Miri recorded the highest number of cases with 109 cases, followed by Kapit with 69 cases, and Sibu with 58 cases.


“This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the State to 37,654 cases,” it said.

SDMC added other districts with new Covid-19 infections are Bintulu (46), Kuching (42), Belaga (40), Sarikei (28), Selangau  (26), Meradong  (21), Pakan (18), Kanowit (15), Serian (13), Sebauh (11), Song (7), Sri Aman (7), Tatau (6), Mukah (5), Lubok Antu  (4), Bau (2), Pusa (2), Bukit Mabong (1), Subis (1), Julau (1) and Samarahan (1).

SDMC noted from the 533 cases today, 380 cases are detected from individuals who have a close contact with Covid-19 positive cases, followed by 59 cases through individuals screening from the current active clusters.

Another 56 of the cases are from other types of screening at health facilities (asymptomatic cases), while 38 cases are from symptomatic individuals at health facilities.

Meanwhile, SDMC said one death case involving Covid-19 was also recorded today in Kuching, involving a 60-year-old local woman.

According to SDMC, the deceased have been receiving treatment in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for cancer metastasis, and a rT-PCR swab test conducted on May 3, 2021, returned positive for Covid-19.

“The deceased’s health condition deteriorated and was pronounced dead on May 13, 2021. The case also has other comorbidity namely diabetes and high blood pressure,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
