KUCHING, Sept 30: The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) will meet tomorrow (Oct 1) with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to discuss the inclusion of Sarawak’s water transport sector under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) targeted fuel subsidy scheme.
In a statement, Minister for Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin asserted that passenger boat operators and riverine as well as coastal communities depending solely on water transport must not be left out.
He said the scheme has been well-received nationwide and reflects the government’s commitment to the people’s welfare.
In preparation, the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) has been directed to work with the ministries to provide complete and accurate data.
“To date, SRB has submitted to the Ministry of Finance Sarawak a consolidated list of 205 registered passenger boat owners and operators of small boats and vessels holding River Transport Permits issued by the Board. This list will form part of the scheme adjustment considerations under BUDI95,” said Lee.
He added that SRB is also gathering and verifying information on riverine and coastal communities to ensure inclusivity for all eligible groups. — DayakDaily
