KUCHING, Jan 2: Schools in Sarawak are prepared to address potential flooding during the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, scheduled from Jan 2 to Feb 6, with alternative examination centres identified.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Education Department director Omar Mahli assured that contingency plans are in place nationwide to manage disruptions caused by disasters.
“If any school is affected, alternative examination centres have been identified to ensure all candidates can sit for the SPM examination without interruption,” he said during a visit to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor today.
Omar highlighted that while Sarawak is currently only at a flood-risk level, the situation remains under control.
“Most secondary schools are not directly affected by floods, though some roads have been cut off due to heavy rain. At present, only six secondary schools statewide are considered at risk of flooding,” he explained.
A total of 35,424 candidates have registered to sit for the 2024 SPM examination at 255 centres across Sarawak.
The visit was also attended by Kuching District Education officer Dr Majelani Sulong and SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor principal William Tedong. — DayakDaily
