KUCHING, Nov 10: The demand for one-third of parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak has now entered into negotiations for legislative assessment involving the attorney generals from the Federal, Sarawak and Sabah governments.
Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said analysis by the Election Commission (EC) has been completed and now requires input from the three attorney generals.
According to him, the 1963 Malaysia Agreement Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) Technical Committee will meet in the first quarter of next year.
“We will give them time to negotiate before the meeting with the technical committee is held in the first quarter of next year.
“The meeting will result in a report from the three legal advisers of the Federation, Sarawak and Sabah,” he was quoted by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) as saying during Lan Berambeh Petra Jaya Takaful Masuk Kampung event at Kampung Semariang Batu today.
Commenting on whether the matter could be finalised before the 16th General Election, the Petra Jaya MP replied in the negative, adding that it has to go through many as well as complex processes.
“[It must go through] procedures from the EC first before being gazetted and then will be taken to Parliament for constitutional amendment to get a decision.
“It’s certain that it hasn’t had time for (the general election) this time,” he added.
He added that the increase in seats in Parliament will also cause a change in the Legislative Assembly seats for Sarawak and Sabah. — DayakDaily
