Sarawak reports third active cluster involving school at Lrg Siol Kandis, 9 cases confirmed

KUCHING, Feb 24: The Lorong Siol Kandis Cluster which involves a school has seen nine individuals infected with Covid-19 so far including the index case.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cluster was first detected among members of a family at Kampung Pinang Jawa here.


The index case (Case 254,574) to this cluster was found through symptomatic screening at a private health facility on Feb 15.

Transmission was believed to have occurred through close contact with family members and school friends of positive cases.

As of now, 29 individuals have been swabbed and 20 samples have returned negative for Covid-19.

The Lorong Siol Kandis Cluster is currently the third active cluster in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Sarawak registered 416 new cases today, comprising 407 mild cases and nine serious cases.

There were 213 cases in Category 1, 194 cases in Category 2, three cases in Category 3, five cases in Category 4 and one case in Category 5.

District-wise, Kuching reported the highest number of new cases at 136, followed by Sibu with 95, Miri (75), Bintulu (27), Kapit (21), Mukah (16), and Matu (10).

Other districts with new infections are Limbang (9), Sarikei (7), Betong (2), Kanowit (2), Song (2), Telang Usan (2), and Meradong (2).

Meanwhile, Daro, Lawas, Samarahan, Marudi, Lundu, Saratok, Serian, Bukit Mabong, Sebauh and Dalat recorded one new case each.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases across Sarawak now stands at 257,952.
