Sarawak records 225 Covid-19 cases, Bintulu and Samarahan top with 43 cases

KUCHING, April 5: With 225 new Covid-19 cases throughout Sarawak today, Bintulu and Samarahan have both recorded the highest number of 43 cases each.

According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, 15 other districts also registered new cases in the past day.


Coming next after Bintulu and Samarahan was Sibu with 39 cases, then Miri (24), Julau (12), Sebauh (10), Kuching (7), Kapit (7), Sarikei (7), Beluru (7), Matu (6), Meradong (6), Saratok (5), Serian (3), Song (3), Lubok Antu (2) and Kanowit (1).

With that, SDMC reported that the cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak now stands at 17,779.

Out of the 225 today, 126 cases were detected following close contact screenings where 16 of them were symptomatic.

Another 60 cases were individual screenings from existing active clusters where only one showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Adding on, the committee noted 21 cases that were from other screenings in health facilities, 14 cases from symptomatic tests in health facilities and another four Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.

With 238 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 2,904 patients who are receiving treatment in the hospitals across the State.

Today, no new clusters were declared, thus leaving Sarawak with 39 active clusters.  Eleven of them reported new cases today whereas the remaining 28 clusters did not.

Touching on Covid-19 zones, Telang Usan was converted from a yellow to green zone after recording zero local cases in the past 14 days.

With that, there are now 11 Covid-19 red zones, three orange zones, 18 yellow zones and eight green zones. — DayakDaily
