MARUDI, Sept 29: A new 3-star accommodation project is set to be built in Marudi town, and its launch is scheduled to take place this Saturday (Sept 30), with Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg, presiding over the ceremony.
The RM35 million project is being undertaken by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, made this announcement on Friday, highlighting that the construction of the 3-star hotel would significantly contribute to boosting Marudi’s tourism industry.
“In addition to that, Marudi Waterfront will be extended up to Dewan Suarah at a cost of RM35 million,” Penguang pointed out.
Penguang made these comments while attending the Baram Regatta 2023 at Marudi Waterfront, where he was joined by Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
On another note, Penguang expressed his delight at the overwhelming response received for this year’s Baram Regatta.
“This regatta has been revived after five years, after it was put on hold primarily due to Covid-19 and the construction of the Marudi Waterfront,” he said.
“This mother of all regattas began on April 9, 1899, in Baram. It is now 124 years old and holds great significance for us. While some may say that the crowds are not as large as expected, if you compare it to previous years, accessibility is much better now than before,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
