SINGAPORE, Jan 30: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be part of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to meet the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong today.
According to a report by Office of Premier of Sarawak (OPS), the Premier flew to Singapore yesterday (Jan 29) afternoon from Bintulu to join the Prime Minister on his first official visit to the Island Republic after being appointed Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister recently.
Soon after arrival in Singapore, Anwar chaired a pre-council meeting with Malaysian officials at the Malaysian High Commission to deliberate on bilateral matters to be brought up during a courtesy call on Singapore’s Prime Minister this morning.
Abang Johari was present at the meeting to brief the Prime Minister on matters concerning economic cooperation between Sarawak and Singapore, particularly on renewable energy exports and carbon trading.
Abang Johari later also joined Anwar to call on Singapore President Halimah Yacob.
Later this afternoon, the Premier will be among Malaysian leaders who are scheduled to meet the Malaysian diaspora in the republic at a high tea hosted by the Prime Minister at the Malaysian High Commission.
The Foreign Ministry in a press release yesterday said Anwar is visiting the republic at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee.
Other members of the Prime Minister’s delegation include Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Foreign Minister Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Communications and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil and officials from the relevant ministries and agencies.
Abang Johari will fly back to Sarawak late afternoon today via a stop-over in Bintulu where he will be the guest-of-honour at the 10th anniversary dinner of Samalaju Industrial Port. — DayakDaily
