Sarawak Premier drives strategic collaboration with Mubadala Investment Company in energy, carbon sectors

KUCHING, Dec 6: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg took the lead in a significant meeting with Mubadala Investment Company to explore collaboration opportunities, with a particular focus on the energy and carbon sectors.

Key attendees at the meeting included UAE Investments Platform chief executive officer (CEO) and Mubadala Investment Company’s Investment Committee member Dr Bakheet Al Katheeri, Mubadala Investment Company CEO Shiekh Mansoor Al Hamed and UAE Ambassador to Malaysia His Excellency Dr Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri.

Abang Johari is currently in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).


The high-profile gathering delved into strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing Sarawak’s presence, specifically targeting the upstream, midstream, and downstream aspects of the oil and gas industry.

The discussions also thoroughly examined adjustments related to carbon projects under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This underscores Sarawak’s dedication to sustainable practices.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other dignitaries were also actively engaged and contributed to this pivotal session.
