KUCHING, Nov 27: Participants from Indonesia and Sabah were among early birds to arrive in Miri for the Sarawak Premier Cup in the 22nd Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship 2022.

The championship, which will held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club from Nov 29 to Dec 1, is expected to see participation from Pakistan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak.

President of Sarawak Golf Association (SGA2017) Hoan Kee Hock in a statement today said the rest of the participating teams will be arriving later today and practice rounds will be on Nov 28 after registration.

“We are satisfied with the encouraging response even though the event was last held in the year 2019 before the pandemic had forced us to postpone it until this year,” he said.

Among those present to welcome the participants were Hoan, tournament director Ting Bang Kong and advisor Dato’ Rabeahtul Aloya Abbas.

This year’s event is open to local and international junior amateur golfers who are competing in four different categories, namely category A (ages 15 to 17), B (ages 13 to 14), C (ages 12 and under) and special category (ages 18 to 21).

The event is supported by the Sarawak government through Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) and sanctioned by Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) and World Amateur Golf Ranking while Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club is the official venue. — DayakDaily
