KUCHING, Nov 26: The Sarawak Police are planning to block the systems and websites used by gambling syndicates in a bid to curb the increasingly rampant online gambling in the State.

The move comes as authorities acknowledge that digital gambling operations are now difficult to detect through physical raids alone.

In a TVS news, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the initiative aims to disrupt the platforms that allow online gambling, which are accessible globally.

“If we manage to block these systems, then no one will be able to participate in online gambling. We are currently studying and assessing the best ways to implement this,” he told reporters today.

Speaking after officiating the Monthly Assembly of the Sarawak Police Contingent at its headquarters today, Zainal also highlighted the need to update gambling-related laws.

He noted that existing legislation is outdated and often insufficient for proving cases for prosecution under current digital gambling trends.

Beyond enforcement, Zainal stressed the importance of public awareness, warning that gambling, like drugs, can lead to other crimes due to addiction and financial pressure.

He urged the community to abandon the gambling culture and cooperate with police by reporting illegal activities, noting that gambling syndicates cannot survive without public demand. — DayakDaily
