Sarawak police arrest 269 individuals, seize drugs worth RM35k in 3-day Op Tapis

KUCHING, Sept 30: A total of 269 individuals were detained during Op Tapis Khas Siri 6/2022 organised by Sarawak police for various drug abuse offences, which took place over a period of three days.

Of the detainees, 254 were men and 15 were female, ranging from 18 to 57-years-old.


Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) with the help of other police departments and National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) conducted the raid throughout the State from Sept 26 to Sept 28.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of four drug dealers aged between 25 to 57, investigated under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1985,” he said during a press conference held at Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters here today.

He also mentioned that a total of 302 investigation papers have been opened within the operation period where 15 or 5 per cent of them were charged in court, while the remaining ones are still under investigation.

All suspects are being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A(1), Section 39A(2), Section 12(2), Section 30(3) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 as well as Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1985.

Azman further said that in this op, the police have seized drugs worth RM35,556.50 including methamphetamine, ecstacy powder/pill, Eramin 5 pill, cannabis, ketamine, ketum leaf/drink and psychotropic pills.

On property confiscation, the police has confiscated one vehicle in Bintulu as well as one vehicle, one motorcycle and jewellery in Miri worth RM70,323.

At the same time, Azman said as of Sept 28, Sarawak NCID had recorded 7,173 arrests, seized various drugs worth RM9,523,758 and property confiscation worth RM2,306,225.98. — DayakDaily
