KUCHING, April 2: Sarawak aims to plant 35 million trees in support of the national 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign 2020-2025, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari.
According to Abang Johari, this is among initiatives taken by the Sarawak government involving a modern economic approach based on available resources.
“Out of the 100 million trees targeted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Sarawak is targeting to plant 35 million trees, and I believe that we can fulfill this,” he said in his speech during a luncheon programme with community leaders at a hotel here today.
Abang Johari noted the world is now facing a climate problem where certain countries are sinking due to rising sea levels.
Therefore, he explained, in the framework of Sarawak’s economic policy, the State is centered on resources sustainability.
“Sarawak has planted about 3 million trees this year, and we will continue this effort,” he added.
On Jan 5 this year, the prime minister planted a Merbau tree in his official residence in the Seri Perdana garden to kick off the 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign 2020-2025.
He also called on all Malaysians to participate in the campaign to ensure its success in order to make Malaysia green. — DayakDaily
