SIBU, March 6: The Sarawak government, through Hornbill Skyways, has placed an order for a Cessna cargo plane to export food products to Singapore and other strategic markets in the region.

The plane is capable of carrying three containers each trip.

This was revealed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during a dialogue session organised by the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce (Sibu Region) at a hotel here today.

“We have booked the Cessna plane, and now we just have to wait. There seems to be a long queue for the planes as there are others who are also interested in getting a similar model,” he said.

This initiative is crucial to boost Sarawak’s economic activities, where one of the focus areas is on food production, he pointed out.

For this purpose, the state government has allocated 2,000 acres in Sarikei for food production activities, such as vegetable planting, livestock rearing and aquaculture.

“I have tasked Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to look into this sector,” he said. — DayakDaily
